Nearly 60 students participated in CCBC’s “1st Day on the Road 2 Success” career preparation event held Oct. 8 at CCBC Catonsville. Students gained tips on interviewing skills, resume writing techniques and proper make-up application and grooming.

After participating in the workshop, students received complimentary business attire thanks to the generosity of CCBC employees who donated suits, shoes and accessories. Glyndon Lord Baltimore Cleaners cleaned and stored all the donated clothing for free.

“We believe that many of our students are concerned about finding a job in these tough economic times,” says Mark Williams, director of Career Services at CCBC. “Having to be concerned about stretching one’s budget to pay for a quality business suit only adds to those concerns. By including the business attire component in 'Road 2 Success,' we hope our students can walk into that coveted job interview armed with a greater sense of confidence.”

In addition to Glyndon Lord Baltimore Cleaners, Monave cosmetics provided a beauty consultant to give young women instructions on proper make-up application for job interviews. Local non-profit organizations STRIVE and Suited to Succeed offered to redistribute any excess clothing to ensure that nothing was wasted and clothing went toward people in need.
Plans are in the works to hold a similar event next year at a different CCBC campus. Glyndon Lord Baltimore Cleaners has already pledged its support for another year.

“We are indebted to all our partners who helped make this event possible,” says Nicole Jones, special project coordinator. “We really couldn’t have pulled this off without the cleaning and storage services provided by Glyndon Lord Baltimore Cleaners. They cleaned and stored hundreds of suits at no charge. I’m still amazed by their contribution!”
